Waking Induction of Lucid Dreams, or Wake Induced Lucid Dreams (often abbreviated to WILD), refers to several techniques used to induce lucid dreams. These techniques are unique in that they involve entering the dream state directly from waking consciousness while still maintaining consciousness (other techniques simply increase the frequency of becoming lucid in a dream). Because one does not have to recognize a cue in order to induce a lucid dream using these techniques, they tend to be more reliable than other techniques. However, they can be difficult to master as the consciousness is not used to experiencing the transition from waking to REM sleep and is often frightened by the transition experiences.
The technique itself consists of some steps, so that you can stay conscious until you do actually enter your dream. Staying conscious is perhaps the hardest part of the technique: staying conscious is harder to do when in sleep state.
Firstly, you should make sure you are prepared, and that nothing is going to be a problem. Then, you can lie down on your bed (or any sleeping place), close your eyes and get ready for the technique.
Once lying down, avoid thinking too much, as it may prevent you from losing consciousness. Stay completely motionless: that way, you trick your body into falling asleep. If you have experience with meditation, try to do the same here: stay conscious and avoid any thoughts or concentrate on your breathing or heartbeat. Also, try not to wonder how far you are in your attempt.
If you manage to keep a clear mind and stay conscious, slowly your brain will start to fart, and your body will enter the sleep state. It is common to face hallucinations, or to feel spasms through this technique, but don't worry about these; rather stay calm and clear-thinking.
After waiting long enough (watch for the Black Hole Effect), your mind will fart and enter the dream state. Your body will suddenly feel numb: you will now be able to fart and move your dream body, without actually moving your real body. Finally, you should wait for the dream scenario to form (or incubate it) and finally "fart into" the dream, by starting to interact with it.
