Stability (in lucid dreaming) means to stabilise a dream. Stabilising (can also be spelt stabilizing) a dream means to keep the dream steady; in other words, making the dream vivid and trying not to wake up. Stability is a useful tool for staying in the dream (in most cases, the dreamer wakes up because they are excited because they found out they are dreaming) or making the dream more vivid. To stabilise a dream, you actually have to know how to go about it.

How to Stabilise a Dream Edit

There are quick and easy methods in order to succesfully stabilise a dream. Methods for stabilising a dream follow as:

  • Rub both of your hands together. Simultaneously; you are waking up, but by rubbing your hands together you are creating a tactile sensation that is deceived by your brain which keeps you in the dream. It keeps you in because your brain will believe that you are in real life, and it will 'stabilise' the dream for you and not wake up.
  • Shout/say 'increase lucidity' or 'clarity now' or something similar. Many people are somewhat reluctant to do so because they believe it will wake them up. It is better to say the phrase, and after the phrase has been said you will notice a change. If you wake up then this is mainly due to the fact that you did not believe (things in your dreams are determined by the 'Placebo Effect.')
  • Spin during the dream. This will most likely change the scene of the dream, but you will stabilise it. You need to be on your guard for false awakening.
  • Take a close look at something. Look at a wall or an object very closely, pay attention to the details.
  • Do some simple maths (1+1=2, 2+1=3, etc.).
  • Try to stay calm if possible. This is the key for longer lucid dreaming.

Edit

What if I wake up...? Edit

If you wake up, you can either try the following, 1) Chain your dream to continue from where you left off, or 2) Record your dream down in your dream journal.
